Territoire de Senlime

AREA

  • The Meuse-Rhine Euregio is a culturally rich community, cooperating beyond borders, inside the European Union.
  • The Meuse-Rhine Euregio includes the Belgian provinces of Limburg (800.000 inhabitants) and of Liège (1 million inhabitants), the south-west of the Netherlandish Limburg (700.000 inhabitants), and the under-region of Aachen (west of the district of Koeln, with more than a million inhabitants).
  • This trilingual region, where regional and linguistic borders don't coincide, had a long common history. Point of contact between three important cultural currents, the Meuse-Rhine Euregio is aspiring to the European unification.

HISTORY

  • Already before World War II, Esperantist neighbors of the three countries used to meet. They often cycled over and spent the night at one of their friends.
  • That is how the Trilandaj Renkontighoj-s started, as meetings of Esperantists from the three countries; they now take place every year (in spring and autumn).
  • Every regional group of esperantists (Aix, Marnoland, Verviers,...) alternatively organized Meetings of the three countries. Small groups of volunteers succeeded in originating some sort of committee.
  • So, little by little, the Meeting of the Three Countries turned into a three-national association. It was founded on the 17th of october 1993, on the occasion of a historic Meeting of the Three Countries at La Calamine (Belgium), whose purpose was in fact the revival of the old esperantist project of creating in Neutral Moresnet quite near a real state with Esperanto as a language.
  • One year later, on the occasion of an other Trilanda Renkontigho, this time at Comblain-au-Pont (Belgium), the second general assembly of members approved the definitive statutes and the internal rule of the association.

Extracts of the STATUTES

  • ART. 1. - The Senlime [borderless] association plans to support the intercomprehension between peoples with the help of the international language: Esperanto, especially in the Meuse-Rhine Euregio. Its head office is: Tienbundersweg 38, NL-6321 CR WIJLRES.
  • ART. 2. - 1. Is a member any Esperantist living in the European Union, who is interested in the Meuse-Rhine Euregio and who supports the association [for example by paying a yearly contribution].
  • ART. 7. - The board of directors consists of members, i.e. representatives from all groups and of esperantists who would be ready to actively cooperate with the association, for instance by organizing a Trilanda in their region.

ORGANIZATION

  • The association is directed by the General assembly, meeting every year on the occasion of a Trilanda Renkontigho, but the daily management of the association is taken in charge by a committee (meeting every two months), that includes:
    • three secretaries (one for each language), among which a Chief of Staff;
    • three treasurers (one for every country), among whom a central treasurer;
    • other permanent collaborators with definite tasks in common.
  • One of the main tasks of the committee is the organization of the Meetings of the three Countries. The committee sends a personal invitation and information about meetings and the other points concerning the association to all members (all regular members pay a reduced price for all Trilanda Renkontigho).

SUBSCRIPTION

An affiliation is valid only after the payment of the contribution.
